The other week Boris and I were riding around Stanley park and witnessed nature at its finest.
We saw two eagles chasing a seagull. At first we thought that simply the seagull must have agitated them and they were trying to push him away, but our initial impression turned out to be wrong and we saw a wonderful sky fight between them. Then right in the middle of the air one of the eagles swooped down and grabbed the seagull into its vicious talons. It carried it around in the air for a minute and dropped it. The gull landed in the water with a splash and started to attempt a take off and an escape for its life. The other eagle would not allow this and came in for a second barrage and grab it as well. They did their tango in the water and came to a rest. The action was over....
Or was it.
One eagle flew back towards the park to what we assumed was their nest. The other continued to float in the water, remaining with its prey. Then after a few minutes it took off to take its meal back to their young. This would be no simple task though. For once over land again a small murder of crows thought to themselves that they wanted a free seagull platter and chased and hounded the eagle, all in a vain hope that it would drop the corpse.Alas to no avail though did they succeed. A few passes and twists and turns and the eagle lost them, or they simply gave up from the effort. With a final sweep through the branches of trees the eagle and its prey were off to relish in its well earned meal.
